Vava'u, Kingdom of Tonga

The ancient Kingdom of Tonga is the oldest and last remaining Polynesian monarchy, and is the only Pacific nation never to have been brought under foreign rule.

This consistency and longevity has ensured that the reserved and proud Tongan people have maintained their culture.
The 170 tropical islands comprising the archipelago have a total land area of just 691 square km with the islands spread over 700,000 square km in the Pacific Ocean.

Of the four island groups - Tongatapu, Ha’apai, Vava’u and the Niuas - the Vava’u group of islands is arguably the most scenic in the Kingdom extending from the uplifted limestone cliffs in the north to a multitude of sheltered palm fringed islands in the south separated by sparkling turquoise and indigo waterways.

It is an aquatic playground with great diving, sport fishing, sailing, sea kayaking and snorkeling year round, and of course whale watching.
